Additional learning support

At our school, we ensure every student is ready to learn. We support students with disability and additional learning needs so they can take part in all areas of school life. You do not need a formal diagnosis for your child to receive support in a mainstream class. Support can begin at any stage of school.

Support that fits your child's needs

Some students need extra support to feel confident and do their best at school. We work closely with families to make support plans and adjustments  that suits each child’s needs.

MULTILit

The MULTILit Reading Tutor Program caters for students who have not yet acquired the basic skills needed to become functional readers. Children who have experienced difficulty to learn to read in the first few years of schooling need intensive, systematic reading instruction if they are not to fall further behind.

Research shows that the most effective programs of reading instruction for low-progress readers involve intensive, systematic and explicit instruction in three main areas:

1.           ‘Phonics’ (or word attack skills);

2.           Sight words recognition; and

3.           Supported book reading

Students are given individual lessons several times a week to support their reading/ literacy needs.

EAL/D (English as an Additional Language/Dialect)

During English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EAL/D) sessions, students work in both class and small group sessions acquiring and building upon their acquisition of English language skills. Students participate in speaking, listening and writing activities to support learning within their classroom.

Learning Support

During Learning Support sessions students will continue to work on numeracy and literacy skills. These sessions will occur via withdrawal and in-class support for students in Years 1 to Year 6.
